My 3 yo,daughter and I were sitting here. I was combing her hair and she was drawing on her magna doodle. All of a sudden I hear her....

"mudder...mudder....fa.....mudder-fa....ck,ck....mudder-fa-cker"

I said, no Holly. Thats not a nice word for Holly.

she said "oh, ok...only for Mommy?"

Ha! This is only the beginning. From here on out, she will remember every word that you utter, and remember always to use against you at a more opportune moment.

When I was growing up one of the younger kids in the neighborhood would swear like a sailor. Just like his Dad (who happened to be in the Navy). His Dad would get SO mad and chase him around the house trying to get him to stop. The kid would always climb under the dining room table and sit there saying F**K over and over.....while the Dad stood there getting more and more angry. The whole scene was always hilarious.

oh, man. the cursewords thing has someone been handled well by me.

the first time connor uttered "shit", i calmly said "connor, that's a rude word. are you a rude boy?" and he goes "no mama. i'm a nice boy!" so i explained that "shit" is rude.

ever since then, whenever he says anything that i wouldn't want him to repeat in front of his WASPy grandparents, i tell him "that's a rude word, hon". it has TOTALLY done the job. he knows the words are rude and never repeats them.

    it's because i didn't overreact.

sometimes when i'm driving, and i say "get out of the way, jerk!" he gets all serious-toned and says "mama, that's not very nice." ;) nothing quite like getting upbraided by your 5-yo.

My problem is that I can't keep a straight face. NOT a good parenting skill. If you laugh, they WILL say it again. I've since learned to either leave the room to laugh, or think of dead pets or something to keep from laughing. If he swears though, I don't find that funny. Fortunately we haven't had too much of an issue with that.
