Foibles in Potty Training

topic posted Wed, July 25, 2007 - 10:10 AM by  Schpanky

My son is a little over 3 years old and potty training has been somewhat of a challenge - though I think we're progressing in a positive direction. Over the past week, he has shown much more interest, asking me to use the potty. Last week, when we went into the bathroom, he waddled up to the toilet like a pro and within minutes, had done his first pee pee in the potty! I was so proud! We sang out loud, did a potty dance and he earned a couple of stars for reward. Last night, enthusiastically, my son said "Mommy, I need to go potty!" We hurried to the bathroom, where I lifted the toilet seat, pointed him towards the toilet and encouraged him to try. Within seconds, he swung around and plop! went hiney first into the toilet with a big splash. The sad look on his face said it all. I'm hoping for better luck next time and that this little incident doesn't have a lasting effect on the progression we've made up to this point!

that's exciting! please, get your son over here to tell my twins a thing or two. they love to pee standing up "like daddy", but they have yet to do the poo. they refuse. out-and-out. WON'T, MAMA. :(

and just so you know, target has this nice little seat for the toilet that's less than 10 bucks. (i think mine was like, 6 dollars) i find that i'm able to convince/wheedle/bribe them into doing stuff much easier when they can "do it like daddy". you know?

i also use method's (i just adore method products!) flushable toilet wipes to wipe the potty seat down every time my oldest uses it. he's only five, and he's still nervous using the toilet without his "seat". the flushable wipes keep everything sanitary. plus, they smell awesome.

side note: one twin just came over to me. he has nothing on but a pull-up and a thighmaster. ???
