My son Max is 8 months old and seems to be starting up some fake crying. Specifically when I tell him that he can't climb into the garbage can. He'll sit down and make the funniest pretend "I am going to cry" face! I try not to laugh because I don't want him to think I am kidding about the garbage and the climbing, but whew! It's hilarious!

Re: Trying not to laugh at the fake crying
Tue, September 4, 2007 - 4:31 PMoh man, i think i spend 30 percent of my day trying not to laugh at something my kids are doing in order to maintain a slight semblance of parental authority. half the time, especially when they're fighting, they're making funny faces or saying the funniest things, and i've become quite adept at keeping a straight face.
and if i remember correctly, my training began when connor first started the fake cry thing. like, "pay attention to me, dammit" wailing. -

Re: Trying not to laugh at the fake crying
Mon, September 17, 2007 - 12:43 PMI got into the habit of leaving the room to compose myself. This was doubly effective, because I could leave the room and laugh as much as I wanted, while my son sat wondering just how mad I was that I had to leave and come back to punish/talk/whatever to him.
